At the heart of the Hankyu Umeda department store in Osaka, Polène is beginning a new chapter of its story in Japan. The brand is moving in with an experiential space designed to immerse visitors in leather savoir-faire, where precise techniques, quality materials and the spirit of innovation take shape.
In the center sits an eye-catching table inspired by workshop furniture. Its drawers are filled with leather-working instruments – spools of thread, tools, an embossing machine – alongside the brand’s emblematic creations. Visitors’ eyes move between drawers and compartments, discovering, step by step, the multi-faceted expertise of Polène’s artisans as it unfolds in the Ubrique workshops.
The walls feature walnut alcoves sheathed in compressed leather offcuts, with a nook for each piece. Crafted in Ubrique, this upcycled composite material reveals random motifs across the different types of leather, highlighting the brand’s commitment to innovation in its artisanship. The contrast between the compressed leather and the wood creates a sensory interplay between textures. The space was inspired by Japanese architecture and its blueprint, where everything has its proper place.
